| Minstrel shows became a Millersport tradition in 1958 when the Millersport Athletic Booster Club sponsored the show. Later, the project was shared with the Band Boosters. After many years, the shows were discontinued and then revived by the Millersport Community Theatre, (MCT) in 1976. Each year since then, MCT has produced a community minstrel show featuring area talent. The MCT was an outgrowth of the Bicentennial Celebration and began with the summer production of Brigadoon. Membership has increased and for every year since its begining, MCT has produced a summer musical. For the past 30 years, MCT has produced a spring minstrel. The cast includes farmers, educators, sales represntatives, doctors, construction workers, bankers, teachers, secretaries and politicians all performing for the enjoyment of the arts and fellowship. The shows are a group effort. Members practice memorizing music and motions and or dance routines. Some members paint scenery design signs, hang lights and work on publicity. Shows are staged at the Millersport Elementary auditorium. We are always looking for new faces and energetic people to help our organization, be it behind the scenes or performing under the spotlight. |
